We are honoring JoeAnn Sause as a Torchbearer, for her incredible volunteer efforts supporting homeless veterans, military families and the troops.
JoeAnn moved to Atlanta 15 years ago to be closer to her daughter. Once she settled into her new home, she looked for opportunities to give back and create a sense of purpose for her life, which is how she found passion in supporting the military. For more than a decade, JoeAnn has martialed the support of her community to serve those that serve us. Every July, she leads a card-writing campaign, this year, resulting in 800 active duty troops receiving letters and care packages. JoeAnn and her neighbors make tray favors for the Eagle’s Nest at the VA Hospital, and she has adopted a military family, who receives a monthly gift package while the father is deployed. This holiday season, she has been shopping for and filling 85 gift bags for homeless veterans to be distributed through the Homeless Veterans Project at Fort MacPherson.
Though JoeAnn is quick to say she can’t do these things by herself and is grateful for her neighbors and fellow members of Central DeKalb Senior Center who contribute time and donations, we salute her for her passion and dedication to year-round efforts that support the military.
